The best football strikers ever

In football the striker is the player whose main goal is to score as many goals as possible. There have been many great strikers, but who are the greatest strikers ever?

Pele It is not surprisingly that Pelé is our greatest striker ever, if you only look at his statistics you will see why. The Brazilian scored 1281 goals in 1363 games, a number which hasn't been repeated by any player until today. Pelé scored goals on several ways, always looking for a possibility to shoot on goal. He was a great header although he wasn't the tallest, he scored several bicycle goals but the way he scored most of his goals was with he's great kick, Pelé could shoot very well with both of his legs.

Ferenc Puskás

Ferenc Puskás Hungarian player Puskás was a great striker, he had one of the best shots in football history. This helped him score a lot of goals , he scored 513 goals in 528 matches. As a captain of Hungary Puskas scored 84 times in 85 matches, helping them win a gold medal at the 1952 Olympics, and a place in the final of the 1954 FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo Ronaldo was the greatest striker of the late '90s and early '00s. In this period he was just unstoppable, he could score from any position at any moment. The Brazilian always scored a lot of goals at any team he played with. At the 2006 World Cup Ronaldo scored his 15th World Cup goal and became record holder of scoring the most goals at World Cups.

Diego Maradona

Diego Maradona Maradona only on four, surprised? No this list is about the best strikers ever and Maradona was more an attacking midfielder, however Maradona was still a great finisher, he could score out of incredible positions, with incredible shots but he also created a scoring change from nowhere by dribbling past defenders like they were not there. It helped him score a lot of goals.

Eusébio Eusébio, nicknamed "The Black Panther" was the first big player born in Africa. He is Benfica´s all-time top scorer with 638 goals in 614 matches. Eusébio impressed with Portugal at the 1966 World Cup where he became top scorer with 9 goals.

Marco van Basten

Marco van Basten Ajax and Milan hero, van Basten was a great striker. He won the European Championship with Holland in 1988, becoming top scorer of the tournament with 5 goals. He was a very talented player but was forced to retire his career early at age 30 due to an ankle injury.

Gerd Müller

Gerd Müller Müller won the World Cup with West-Germany in 1974 , he scored a total of 68 goals in 62 matches for the national team. He was nicknamed "Der Bomber" because of his incredible scoring ability. He scored 401 goals in 441 matches as a striker of Bayern Munich.

Fernando Peyroteo

Fernando Peyroteo Few will have heard about him, but Fernando Peyroteo is the player with the highest goals per game ratio (1.68). Compare this with Pelé who has a ratio of 0.96 goals per game. Peyroteo played as a striker of Sporting during the 40's where he scored 331 goals in 187 games. Although it was a different time without European football, he remains one of the greatest strikers ever.

Arthur Friedenreich

Arthur Friedenreich Friedenreich played even before WWI, from 1909 to 1935. There is not much footage of him but his number of goals is amazing. There is confusion about the exact number, some say he scored 1239 goals in 1329 games, while others suggest it were 1329 goals in 1239 games. Friedenreich was nicknamed "The King of Football" before Pelé took this title.

Romario He is one of the few players that scored more than 1000 goals. He was the striker of Barcelona's dream team during the early 90's that was coached by Johan Cruyff. He won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994, winning the golden ball for best player.

I think Pele is the Greatest striker ever but not player of all time ,I think the worlds Greatest player of all time regardless of scoring and overall record is sum1 of the 1st half century like Andres of uraguay he won the 1st ever world cup or how about Steve Bloomer of England when they were the undisputed rulers of the world. It cud easily b Sir Stanley Matthews afterall even Pele said that he led the way for modern day stars.

OMG what a list. Maradona was more an offensive 10 as a traditional striker. Even Pelé was more an offensive 10 as a real forwarder. I think the best striker of all time was Gerd Muller! Marco van Basten better listed as Gerd Muller? Ridiculous. You must be dutch. Muller was the only one who scored more goals as matches he participated in the national team. He scored 40 goals in one german Bundesleague season like no other. No one, absolutely no one could step on the same level as a striker as him.
