The best football dribblers ever

The football game has many aspects one of it is dribbling. Many great players can dribble very well but this list is about "The best dribbler ever". It are these players who can decide a match with just one action they are the players who mastered dribbling the best and had the ability to beat defenders no one else could.

Diego Maradona

Diego Maradona Maradona is arguably the best dribbler ever, just watch one of his videos and you will see why whole teams had to mark him. Maradona could get past defenders easily, he would use body feints to fool a defender into believing exactly the opposite of what he was actually going to do. He would suddenly change direction when the defender was expecting him to go the other way, it is this style of dribbling he used which is called "Gambetta". One example of this is his second goal against England in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final where he would get the ball and beat five England defenders before scoring a goal. Maradona would later say in one of his interviews "In that game no one could have stopped me, not even Mike Tyson".

Lionel Messi

Messi The 23 year old Argentine has an incredible ball control and fast acceleration. He can beat defenders with his short ball touches by suddenly changing direction. Although he is still very young we consider him as one of the best dribblers ever already. With he´s brilliant play at Barcelona he has already won the Champions League thrice. He scored a similar goal like Maradona´s 'Goal of the Century' in a match against Getafe where he dribbled past 5 players.

Garrincha Garrincha was well-known for his great dribbling move where he threatened inside but then suddenly go outside with a fast acceleration. He would then reach the penalty area to score a goal or give an assist. He did this move multiple times in a match and defenders would always fail for it. He won the World Cup twice and Brazil never lost a game with both Pelé and Garrincha in the team.

His great dribble move

Johan Cruyff

Johan Cruyff Cruyff had the ability to see the weak spots in a defense he would see a gap and suddenly accelerate into it and make his way to the penalty area. He was a great dribbler who could suddenly change direction and accelerate past a defender. However he also had his own move named after him, "The Cruyff turn". In this move he would look like passing the ball to his teammate but instead of kicking he would drag the ball behind his planted foot with the inside of his other foot, turn 90 degrees and accelerate away from the defender.

George Best

George Best The greatest player ever to play at Manchester United was also a great dribbler. Best mainly used his right foot to cut away from defenders, creating space in which he would continue his dribble. Although only using his right foot he had a great control of the ball. By using the inside and outside of the foot he allowed himself to quickly change direction or dodge tackles.

George Best
Simply the best.

Pelé Besides being great at heading, shooting and scoring goals, Pelé also was a great dribbler. With the ball short on his feet he had a great control of the ball which looked like it would stick to his shoe. This gave him the possibility to keep control of the ball even in short areas. With this ability he was able to keep the ball with him in the penalty area and score a lot of goals from there.

The Master Of the Beautiful Game.

Ronaldo Brazilian player Ronaldo had a great dribbling ability. He made amazing solo runs slaloming through the defense, passing several defenders and finally beating the keeper and scoring a goal. Ronaldo was great in doing step overs, whether it was a single one or multiple ones, he would always get past the defender. Not many players do step overs in front of the keeper the way Ronaldo did in his match against Ghana at the 2006 World Cup.

Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane Zidane is probably the player with the best ball control ever. He wasn't the fastest, he didn't had a great acceleration, but he didn't need that with such a control over the ball. Zidane could get out of difficult situations easily. He also got an own move named after him, the "Zidane Roulette". It's the 360 turn he perfected and used most effectively of all players.

Ronaldinho Although he may not be as good as in his Barcelona period, Ronaldinho still is a great player with a lot of skills. He did a lot of amazing tricks during his career, bringing freestyle skills in a football match. One of his famous moves is the elastico where he fools a defender by pushing the ball sideways but suddenly pulling the ball back to the other side.

Skills and tricks.

Stanley Matthews

Stanley Matthews Stanley Matthews was known for his great dribbling skills, because of that he gained the nickname "the wizard of dribble". Matthews had a great balance and sense of timing, he could suddenly accelerate on a moment the defender would not suspect it. Pelé once said Matthews was "the man who taught us the way football should be played.".

offcourse Maradona is the best, he is the player with the most completed dribbles in a World cup, 53 dribbles in 1986 in Mexico. Ronaldinho should rank higher. Messi had 46 completed dribbles in Brazil 2014. Maradona,Messi, Ronaldinho and Garrincha are the best dribbler ever.

Ronaldo (The Original), Messi, Best, Cruyff, Savicevic, Maradona,Matthews, Garincha these players are true dribblers. CR7 can dribble but he is not a dribbler, his skill game is based mainly on tricks and feints. Real dribblers rely on close ball control with the ablity to beat players without the moves. In todays game, Messi is untouchable as a dribbler.
Jim Chisha Kafuti   January 10, 2015 at 1:30 pm
I understand those that put CR7 among the greatest players of all times. Mostly I believe are young people who never saw the greats. I bet Ronaldo's dribbling can't even bit Okocha. My man for this Denilson the Brazilian most of us used to see him during the world cup!
smythe   December 27, 2014 at 9:48 pm
Im a cr7 fan. its understandable that he is not on this list. its a hard candy to swallow that there are better dribblers than him and had been. he cant be perfect. he cant be 10/10 on everything. but did anyone consider pirlo . pirlo gets out of tight spaces quite easily. there should always be a honourable mentions list along with such a controversial and subjective topic.
baggio   December 26, 2014 at 5:02 am
Baggio better than Messi. Only greatest Messi is is greatest overrated club baller. CR7 better and he's not in top ten. Plus the issue is dribbling not overall best. How some of you learn at school. Answer the question asked. Top 10 best dribblers are: 1. Garrincha 2. Maradona 3. Cryuff 4. Best 5. Pele 6. Matthews 7. Ronaldinho 8. Baggio 9. Messi 10. Robben

Intelligent dribling in very small spaces, without getting fouled and a beauty to watch- Ronaldinho certainly the best. Jay Jay had the longest legs for a short guy.
Indian   July 31, 2014 at 7:47 pm
How come everyone forgot Denilson???? If only dribbling is considered Denilson is undoubtedly No.1
